How to remove user comments field

Hi i've got my gallery work fine now, but I want to remove the ability to post comments, i've tried editing theme.php but it just messes things up.
Any ideas? - I couldn't find the option to turn comments off in the config either

Its not on config page. You can turn comments off from "Groups"  manager. Just set "Can post comments" to "No" for the groups you want to remove the ability to post comments.
