[Solved]: Changed servers; now my mail smtp won't work
« on: June 27, 2004, 06:54:19 am »

I have searched, and have searched  :-\\   The problem is this:  I have just switchedall of my files and my databases to a new host.  I went through making sure every CHMOD was set accordingly, I made sure that mailer.inc.php is set up correctly, and I am wondering if I missed something because I didn't do the original install on this server.

This is the error:

Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 502 unimplemented (#5.5.1)

Please help, I have been picking at my brain for this 1 problem for literally 8 hours.

Thank You.

well, it says "unimplemented" - did you contact your new webhost and make sure they actually have set up their server to allow emails being sent?

I emailed them the problems that I am having with this, asking if they ahve to do something on their part.  (I am still awaiting a response). :-\\

The problem is that I am getting this same error on both coppermine and phpBB2  ??? ...  This makes me believe it is on their server that the problem lies. Yet!, I have set up outlook and I can send emails using the POP3 and SMTP information that they give me, and it works fine.   This is what confuses me the most.

There was a thread that I read on here that said "to troubleshoot, and make sure that it's working - go into a command prompt and telnet the smtp host and see if you get a 220 back or if theres an error"...  I did this, and I get an a-ok on it.

Grrr...  I'm wondering if it's saying it hasn't been implemented because I switched servers and there is a file missing, or a file that isn't set up correctly.

Ugh...    :-\\

Thanks GauGau

I am wondering if the mailer.inc.php file, or any files needed to email someone a validation email, is somehow linked to the databse; say:

intra_mailing    -     intra_mailing_ass    -    intra_mailing_user

Is my problem due to a database error, or me not running a query right?

This may have something to do with it, yet every other thing on Coppermine is working perfectly...

Please help   :-\\

you being able to set up outlook on your client pc is not necesarily related to a script on the webserver being able to send emails. There is little we can do on this board for you, wait for your webhost to get back to you.

It seems as if the host that I have chosen to support my site has turned off outgoing mail through the smtp, or some kind of crap   >:(  ...  In their FAQ, it says that in order to reduce spam, outgoing mail from the server is disabled...  So I chose a different SMTP host and now everything works...

I can't believe I spent the better part of 10 hours going over every tiny detail at least 10 times just to find that this host has disabled something so important.   >:(

At least it's done :-\\

Thanks for the advice GauGau
