mySQL connection problems

When i try to install, I get this error-message:
Could not create a mySQL connection, please check the SQL values entered

MySQL error was : Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client

Is this a MySQL- or a Coppermine-issue?

Either downgrade your mysql version to pre 4.1 or google the message if you are familiar with server setup.
