Coppermine deleted pics from my FTP!
« on: February 24, 2005, 03:38:43 pm »

Hallo!

i have already my portfolio on my server so i just loaded the jpgs in an album via the batch file adder.
i want the gallery to use the pics exactly from the position where i already have them on my FTP.
so batch add files was the only way to do this???
anyway. after i deleted the album. coppermine even deleted all the ORIGINAL files from my FTP/portfoltio folder too!!!!

how can i work around this??? i dont want the totally deleted from the FTP just out of the album! and if u upload them manuallly i do have the problem that he doesnt take the path from my FTP rathers copies the file to some userpics folder.

thanks in advance for ur help!!!

Coppermine looks in the /albums directory when batch adding pictures.  Create a subdirectory and put your pictures in that.  If your pictures are on the same server as your Coppermine gallery, you can change the albums directory location in your config settings.

Once added to the database, you can't just go in and delete the pictures via FTP.  Coppermine needs the originals - all it does is create intermediate and thumbnail images.  It also doesn't delete pictures unless you do it from the Coppermine interface.  It doesn't delete photos at any time during the batch add or web upload process.

In the long run, that doesn't seem practical. You will have files in the folders and not know whether they are still in the database.

One alternative is to move the photos you would want to delete from coppermine into an album that is equivalent to a "trash can". They would be out of view of the public, but the files are still in your account. Once you decide to permanently delete the files, delete them from the trash album.
