I have looked for the answer to this for a while but am having some troubles, probably due to my lack of php skills...

I have read a lot of topics on this subject both on this forum and the smf forum but can't find enough info..  is there someone who can tell me exactly what I need to do (What files to edit, what strings to enter, and where) in order to allow my photo gallery users to be redirected to cpg after logging into my smf integrated board?  Or is this too complicated at this point?

smf doesn't support redirection to external pages for security reasons afaik. In other words: not possible...
I recommend putting a link that points to coppermine into your bbs' navigation.
