*noob alert* help with modifications

Hi.. I want to really strip my gallery down .. can someone point me to a tutorial that can give me a crash course on where to look to remove certain elements.. like the random pics.   I want a very basic look kinda like this:

Can someone give me a jumpstart so i can begin to tweak this.  My question is so ambiguous that i dont even know how to search all the information here... what is a noob to do?

You can remove the random and lastup just by altering 'contents of the main page' string in config. That link leads to an older, simpler, version of coppermine that has been fairly substantially modified.

You had that info all along - it's in the faq.htm in the docs directory in the package you downloaded.
