You need a website that meets the minimum requirements.  There's a link at the top of this page called Documentation.  Read them and you should find answers to your questions.

If you need a webhost, you can search the forums for recommended hosts, or you can search the internet for hosts.  The developers do not recommend hosts or hosting plans.

1- read the documents provided with the coppermine install package
2- read them again!
3- use the search on this board and use it well, there are lots and lots of helpful topics for newbies.
4- experiment a lot. Most of coppermine is fairly easy to understand with a little trial and error.

And to get you started how-to-add-a-album-with pictures-into-coppermine:
- If your the admin of the gallery it is advised to upload the pictures with ftp into the albums directory. Try and keep the folder structure in ftp the same as the albums structure in the gallery.
- You can then make a album, when in admin mode, by using the Albums button.
- When the album is made you can add the pictures, which you uploaded with ftp, by using the Batch Add button.
- Once your in batch add more choose the folder you uploaded the pictures in. Make sure in FTP that you chmod the folder to 777 and that the album is in the folder called "albums"

And for the rest.. just try out how stuff works, see what it does and learn from it. And use the board when your stuck.

Good luck and have a good weekend!

I keep reading this, but it's not really necessary if the site's running on a Windows host.  (Things only get tricky with FTP and permissions under Linux, in which case it is easiest to do it like that.)  In general, under Windows, if you just copy the picture files into the correct location in the Web site directory structure everything should work.

That advise is aimed at admins uploading to a remote server. If the files are already on the machine being used as server then of course you can simply copy/move them.

People running their own server should know - they shouldn't be running their own server if they don't (in fact no home user should run a server that is accessible through the internet imo).
