You can't make them only on the main page, they appear for all categories.

no, the one who's telling you to read the docs was suggesting that the docs say you can't have it on the start page only - in fact the same answer given twice. Kegobeer was trying to help you to help yourself by finding stuff out on your own before asking for help, as this is the best way to get to know the software.
If you absolutely need this hack, you could add an if/then switch into the code of index.php that checks for cat==0. There are postings that explain in detail how to modify the code to accomplish this, please search the board.

i have read the docs and i know it can't be set that way in the config
that's why i asked here, with the hope that someone will point me the code which need to be modificated....
well if this is already answered i'll try to find it
