A test has been done on my serveur ...

for unknown reason, mysql crashed, and bandwidth could go until 4mb/s !!!

After installing monitoring, my host has seen the SLIDESHOW function ecrased the server !!!

Config of the server
PIV 3go
512 Ram
80 GO

Bandwitdh : 10mb/s

As you can see ... a "good" server with a "good" bandwitdh

Also ...

I have about 2600 visitors / day and if too many people use in same time slideshow, the generated page could crash server.

I have some galleries with 300 or 400 pics ... and the generated page could load several hundred ko !!!

So ... I think this info could interest the dev team.

the slideshow does indeed some caching in advance, so there might be a slight rise in bandwidth use. You're recommended to disable all features that eat away to much bandwidth.
I can not replicate how the slideshow is suppossed to crash the mySQL table - it only reads (doesn't write).

Yes it doesn't write : but it reads too many requests at the same time if several users use slideshow !

And I disable it, indeed, to replace soon by my dhtml navigation, by using your ssi.php
