Problems with reCAPCHA plugin
« on: July 26, 2016, 11:51:11 am »

Hello,
My coppermine installation was always affected by registration spam.
While it could handle the amount in the past by manually deleting spam registrations every several days, it seems now I am catched by a spambot which massively registers new users.
So I had to do something and discovered reCAPTACHA and wanted to replace the Captacha 3.0

Installation of the plugin did only work by directly uploading the files but then it worked.
When getting those keys I was little irritated to land on the google page (did they buy it?) but could get the plugin running.
I also put his code snippets in the head section of the theme.html file and to the register.php.

Anyway on the register page a button appaers which says "Click here - Type the words - Click submit"
and a second button below saying "Hide the reCAPTCHA"
but both of them are not clickable.

What went rong with the installation?

It seems this plugin is very old and no longer supported,
are there any alternatives to prevent spambot attacks?

Thanks and kind regards

Alex

This will be short, am on a tablet and have little time.

Your website is unsafe for work. Please, always use NSFW , ALWAYS.

It looks like you downloaded keys for recaptcha 2.0.
Get new keys and reenter in the plugin config page.

Hello,
thanks for your reply.
Sorry for posting the link here. I had concerns to do so but otherwise forum rules say to post the link.
To use NSFW means exactly what?
Anyway I donīt know how to get reCAPTCHA 1.0 keys.
There are no options to select on the google website, so I guess I automatically receive 2.0 keys?
Regards
Alex

Just red here that there are no longer new keys provided for recapchta 1.0:
https://developers.google.com/recaptcha/docs/faq
What can I do in this case?
Can I integrate the scripts provided by google directly into the register page
without using the pluging?

Thanks

  • Use Coppermine's built-in captcha feature
thatīs what I have, does not protect from spambots
installation failed producing an error, anyway I am not sure if this could meet my target
  • Implement the Google code as a plugin or into the file register.php
That sounds best but for integrating captcha 2.0 in the register.php I would need more detailed instructions.

Thanks
