Geodata: photo location on google maps
« on: August 28, 2011, 07:16:20 pm »

pbasmo has released a new plugin named Geodata for cpg 1.5.x

What it does:
-------------
Displays :
- a map (from Google Maps API V3) to localize the place of 1 picture by inserting a button on displaypicture;
- a map (from Google Maps API V3) to localize all pictures of album by inserting a link at the top of list of thumbs;

All positions are saved as "Latitude" and "Longitude" sent by Google Maps.

This plugin has been created for cpg1.5.x.
This plusgin use last version Google Maps API (V3)

=========================================================================

How to install:
---------------
* Unzip
* Upload the 'geodata' folder  into Coppermine's plugins folder
* Go to plugin manager page and install it

How to configure:
-----------------
* Use configuration button in the plugin manager
They are 2 things to configure :
- inserting a new "geodata" button in the navigation bar on the intermediate picture page (in admin mode you can insert or edit the location datas of the picture, and in visitor mode, it inform the guest if the picture is located on a google map);
- optional use of the Enlargeit plugin to show the original picture from the album général map (if the Enlargeit plugin is installed of course

Only the admin mode allow to locate a picture an a map.

A new window will open on a Google map with default datas, or withe the latest coordinates, and the actual thumbnail.
A left click is used to position the marker on the map.
Click on the  "Save" button to save the picture location
Repeat this for all pictures you want to locate from the album

To remove the coordinates of an image, click on "Delete". The image will not be displayed in the map.

Visitor mode
The new button in the navigation bar of the intermediate image will take two forms depending on whether the image is localized or not.
In the first case, the visitor can see the card with the matching tag. By clicking on the marker, we obtain the latitude and longitude coordinates.

Dear Friend:

Your plugin works great. I've installed in my gallery. If you want to test, please see in action here: http://www.cdmgaleria.com/fotos/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=88826

I need if you can modify the plugin to be users themselves load the location of your picture (and localize in  google maps the pic) and not just administrators. Do you think is this possible?.

The plugin is really great but i'm totally agree with kpgmza, is it possible to allow photo owners to change positioning as well?
And also i would like to ask, about feature to allow digital input of coordinates like in google earth (see http://earth.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=guide.cs&guide=22364&topic=22367&answer=148074#entering ) i.e. 45 34 N 23 12 E
As an option i also can suggest to take these coordinates from EXIF or from Coppermine DB text field.

I really like the idea about this plugin and installed it to my gallery: http://www.richards-fotos.nl/coppermine/index.php

Unfortunately I`m having some issues with setting the geodata. If I go to the intermediate size page, I do see the button that should allow me to set the geodata and open the googlemaps window, but nothing happens onze I press the button.

What could be wrong here? Thanks a lot in advance. (I`m a definite noob/greenhorn with this stuff)

Dear François!

Got another problem with this great plugin.
If album is located on the 3nd level (Category-->Category-->Album) link for Google Maps doesn't appear in the top of the album. In case of Category-->Album everything is ok. Can i kindly ask to fix this issue?
Many thanks in advance.

UPS
now i understand the problem!
Creating subcategories I moved photos from one album to another one. And in this case even if all photos have geo-data, link is not displaying until you take any photo and save position again.
Now i saved one of the photo and link appeared. Sorry, i was not correct in problem description. So this is definitely not a critical problem :)

In agreement. Its a very nice mod, but would be great if users could add geo to their own photos.

I'm in agreement with the previous post, the ability to let users who upload pics to geolocate them would be super!

Also if the new database table that this plugin creates could you include country_id, state_id and city_id columns? I've added these to the table on Justflockto.com and use some code that takes the latitude, longitude and then works out the nearest city etc from them using our backend database. It's just a lot quicker to search these indexed fields rather than the the lat / long columns.

In addition to my previous post, I discovered that when using firefox or safari I get the pop-up to set and see geodata, but in IE 8 and 9 I do not get the pop-up, so it`s not working there. I allowed pop-ups for this site, but it doesnt pop anyting.

Anyone?

Maybe a silly question, but does this plugin read gps data if photo already have coordinates set up software like Lightroom?

Is there any support for this plug-in ? Just want to ask if this possible to see geo-page not for the particular album but for whole category?

After upgrade to cpg1.5.26 GEOData doesn't work properly - gives empty screen instead of google earth with positions of photos. Any thoughts?

Additional info:
Screenshot of the problem. In earlier version it was google earth window with thumbnails on the right panel.
Currently - just blank table.
Debug info contents also attached.
