Help, the Coppermine project needs you.
« on: August 10, 2010, 10:58:09 pm »

With the introduction of the all new 1.5.x version of Coppermine we now have what the Coppermine team feel is the fines PHP photo gallery app available. Already a number of plugins have been ported to the new version while others have been included in the core. Contributors and the Dev team have even come up with a few new ones with some great features.

With such a small team we are finding it impossible to port all of the plugins ourselves and this is where you, the coppermine community, come in.

We are seeking help in upgrading a number of older plugins to be compatible with the latest release. Below are listed a few that are currently in great demand but feel free to work on any not already done.

Photo Contest - http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,62496.0.html

Less than a year old this one has been very popular.

MiniCMS - http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,62339.0.html

One of the most popular plugins allowing users to add custom pages with a basic content managment system.

Shopping Cart - http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,57206.0.html

Users can buy photos from your Coppermine gallery.

As already said these are just a few of the more popular plugins that need work but there are numerous others or you may have some ideas for new plugins. All contributions will be gratefully accepted by the community.

Before you start however there are a few things be sure of.

Firstly, check the 1.5.x plugin contributions to make sure you are not duplicating and already ported plugin - http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/board,91.0.html

Then check the general plugin board to see if anyone else is working on your chosen plugin. Any work in progress code we will make a sticky topic so it is easy to locate - http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/board,97.0.html

Your next port of call should be to read the plugin docs - http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/dev_plugins.htm

When you are ready to start work make sure you have the latest version. Alwayd download that from the repository over at sourceforge - https://sourceforge.net/projects/coppermine/files/

Finally start a thread here regularly uploading your work as a zip file - http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/board,97.0.html
We will make your thread a sticky topic and will also be ably to give you advice and tips on your work. We may even contribute to your code so before you commence work on your project please check your thread for any updates that may have been made.

What is in it for you?

Just the thanks of all the Dev team and the community for a job well done. You will also be given contributor status on the forum and a warm fuzzy feeling that goes with it.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I would like to help, but unfortunately I have no technical knowledge to contribute.

The only thing I can think of is to communicate it in our networks / gallery, for users who enjoy our photographs. Maybe someone has the knowledge and wants to help
