[Solved]: Update problem
« on: December 08, 2008, 08:58:26 am »

Hi,
I upgraded to the latest version, uploaded all the files, but when I ran update.php, I got the following message:

"Coppermine critical error:
Unable to connect to database !

MySQL said: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)"

I checked my include/config.inc.php file and the mysql username and password are correct. Tried uploading this file again. It didn't work - same error message.

What should I do now? Pse help.

Is this the same config.inc.php file from your working install. Is the dbase name correct. Is the prefix correct?

Hi,

it is the same config.inc.php file that I've been using all along.
I've checked the dbase username and password of this file - they are correct.

Similarly, the prefix is correct.

The thing is that the error is very clear. Even though you are sure that the values are ok, just check them again.

Hi Farbricio,

Thank you for your advice. Appreciate it.

I've been checking the include/config.inc.php file - there are only 4 lines in the MYSQL configuration section, namely, database server, mysql username, mysql password and mysql database password.

Of course, there is the mysql table prefix.

They are all correct.

In fact, the upgrade package do not have this include/config.inc.php file. So this file in the server is the same all the time.  Also, I've not changed anything in the database. The only thing I did was to do a backup of the database before I upgraded.   I cannot understand why I'm having this problem - no connection to the database unless there is some other explanation.

If you can see your database through phpmyadmin ok and your config.inc.php file is correct then you should speak to your host.

Thank you  Phill.
I contacted my webhost. For some reason, the database server name was changed.
I got it corrected and my website is OK now.

I want to thank all of you who tried to help !!
