public uploads.
« on: November 16, 2006, 04:10:41 pm »

Historicaly We've only been able to publicly create albums in one main category.  We'd like to expand things to that users can create albums in any category.  Is this possible?  Is there mod that does this?  Or something that I'm missing?

Thanks.  :) Close.  But not exactly it.   Really what I want to do is give other categories the same permission as the user gallery category.  So that I could great 6 categories or more.. say

Painting
Photography
3-d
Mixed Media
Technological art
Installation Art

And allow any user to create their own album in each category.

Give the Group Registered users permission to upload into a public album. With or without your admin approval.
Then go the settings page of the album itself and select yes on the allowing visitors to upload pictures into that album.

Info text from the ? sign within CPG:
Note that only visitors who are members of a group for which the setting "Can upload pictures" is set to YES. Members not in the permitted group will not be able to upload files into such an album. Non-registered users are members of the "Anonymous" group.

The same rules as above apply for "Visitors can post comments" and "Visitors can rate files".
*end of info*

Hope this helps :)

Cheers!

I'm there right now.  Users can create their own albums in one user gallery category and upload images to their own albums.

How about for creating albums in multiple categories?  In addition to just uploading images?

The gallery is for a local art site, and I'd like artists to have the opportunity to actually create their own album within any category?

Right now, I've only got one category set up since every time I try to create another, users can't create albums since it's not a user gallery category.  It's running here: http://artdc.org/gallery/

Personally i think it is better, if you are the admin of a cpg installation, to keep a bit of control on what is done where on the site. I suggest keeping the actual creating of the albums and categories in your hands and then grant the users upload rights to those albums.

Did a quick search ad found these.

In the current stable CPG this is not an option.. i believe this thread http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=15402.0 is similar to your request.

Also usefull: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=9726.0

"Users cannot create public albums, only admins can". As mentioned in http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=37719.0

But you never know, i might have searched in the wrong drawer here ;)

Cheers!

I can understand that for sure.  We're a pretty tight community and I'm addicted to moderating things so it's not a problem for my situation.  I'd like to develop some organization to things.  I have now over 50 albums and it's difficult to find what people need.  Each album represents  some images of each artist's work.  I'd like to organize their albums in different catagories with out moving them my self.

I'd like the users to have the same permission as the admin to select which category their albums are in.  Is there any way to hack this by changing a database setting or something else?

Thanks for all of the help!  Any other thoughts?

I posted a mod request here.  I would be very greatful for help on this project.  The site has become very effective, especially since I added a mod to show coppermine pics in the forum user's profiles.

If we can find away to do this, I will be very excited.

Non-admin users can not create albums outside of their user gallery. Has been asked/requested a million times. Still, there's no way to accomplish this. No hack, no mod afaik.
Don't double-post in the future, stick to one thread for one issue.

Thanks for the insight.  Appologies for the double post, won't do that in the future.  I figured I'd just started in the wrong place.

This mod does a lot more than I want, but it looks like it included the ability to move albums between different folders.  Getting close..
