Public release of cpg1.5.2 (beta)
« on: November 16, 2009, 08:12:14 am »

Intended audience
The brand new cpg1.5.x series that comes with a lot of new features finally has reached the release stage: a first public beta release cpg1.5.2 is being announced here that is mainly aimed at translators, testers and community members that have contributed in the past. The very first packaged release cpg1.5.1 was not public, but only available to a closed group of testers. This second release cpg1.5.2 beta is the first release of the cpg1.5.x series that "regular" users can access.
The beta release is not meant to be used in a production environment, but only on testbeds and for evaluation purposes.

No support
There is absolutely no support at this stage. Please keep this in mind.
The support board for cpg1.5.x has not been opened to the public. Do not abuse the testing board or any other board for lame attempts to get support for an unsupported version: "no support" means exactly what it says.

Documentation
There are loads of documentation that has been written particularly for cpg1.5.x, with a new structure. The content of the docs has just gotten so big (compared to cpg1.4.x) that we had to break it into several pieces (files) that are being linked with a common navigation. The documentation comes with coppermine inside the docs folder as usual -it is available online as well under http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/index.htm

Testing
If you came here to test the new release and help us improve it, then you're most welcome. Please read the docs section about testing carefully.

One issue per thread
There are many rules explained in the testing docs - the most important one is the "one issue per thread" policy that is valid throughout this entire forum and that needs to respected particularly when filing test reports for cpg1.5.x or posting potential bugs.

Translation
Both the translation of the program as well as the translation of the docs can start now at this stage, as the dev team has decided on a feature freeze, so hopefully we won't have to add new strings to the language files.
There is a new translation guide that ships with cpg1.5.x that is mandatory to read for potential translators as well as the translation announcement thread "[Help wanted]: Translations for CPG1.5.x".

Download
The beta release package cpg1.5.2 can be downloaded from the mirror system of sourceforge by following this link.
Those of you who can should perform a checkout of the most recent version on the subversion repository.

We're convinced that cpg1.5.x will be the best coppermine ever. The dev team members have spent a huge amount of time on it; hopefully you'll like it.
