Title: Different settings for panorama and 2:3 / 3:4 images.
Post by: sindbad5 on July 21, 2015, 01:40:27 pm
The settings for usual formats are not satisfying when panorama images are involved. It would be nice to define different settings for albums with panoramas and others with normally proportiones images. I understand that this is impossible for an album with a mixed contend but if panoramas are seperated in own albums, perhabs there is a way to get this done. If not with this version, than in a future release.

IMHO you're actually asking for 2 different features:
1. apply different thumbnail picture dimension settings for specific albums
2. apply different thumbnail picture dimension settings for "panorama" pictures, regardless of the album (of course there must be a definition from which aspect ratio a picture is handled as a panorama)

It is not necessary that Coppermine automatically detects the proportions. One defines the size of thumbnails and preview-images as we do it now. In addition, we could define other specifications for a different format and set in the options of an album, which are to be applied.

But how could search results, showing mixed proportioned images, look nice without a responsive design?

So you're actually asking just for feature #1. I'm currently not sure if such a feature will be added to the Coppermine core code. But there's always the option to add new plugin hook points if needed, even in the current major release (i.e. cpg1.5.x).

That doesn't matter for this feature request, as that issue could also exist even without that feature, depending on the global thumbnail settings.
