Title: Coppermine top tips
Post by: phill104 on August 12, 2008, 10:05:00 pm
I would like to create a list of top coppermine tips, just simple ones that will make life easier. So what are your top tips?

Mine, keep notes. At some time there will be the need to update your install for a sequrity patch, bug fix or upgrade to a newer version so it is worth keeping notes of every plugin you install, every mod you make and every thread you visit or create along the route. Many people make so many changes that when the time comes to upgrade they are reluctant to do so simply because they have lost track of their mods.

I would like to add:

1. Read the documentation. It really helps.

2. Don't forget about the search engines. It is quite difficult to rank high with a gallery because of the lack of text. Use a SEO plug-in and provide a rich description + title to each image.

Install the plugin from Frantz which enables you to make a frequent backup of the mysql db from within cpg. Saves lives (wel almost, it saves you a lot of grief if it crashes and you do not have a backup).

Not helping vardis. Phil asks for tips and not unnescesary posts. The FAQ is here: http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/faq.htm (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/faq.htm)

I was the man who edited the post and removed the link as it was unrelated with Coppermine

Then he should have been banned imo and his posting should have been removed entirely. Hard to determine if he's a spammer or not with the link gone. Anyway, locking this thread, as it is leading nowhere.

@daor79: thanks for your readiness to share, but you better should have posted in a thread of your own. There are many, many threads already that explain how to add adsense (or any other custom content) to coppermine-driven pages, so what you're reporting is not new.
