Title: Fullscreen-Viewer/Slideshow Plugin w/flash - viewing photos without distraction
Post by: baerlichkeit on November 12, 2007, 11:09:46 pm
Hello,
this is my first attempt in offering a plugin for Coppermine, so if you find any bugs/errors/mistakes I'm sorry, but I will try to correct everything you find :)

Today i looked into Coppermines plugin-architecture and thought, ok, do it.  ;D

What I did?

First, a good idea is to see it in action. If you have flash 9 or higher installed, Coppermine won't show you the "normal" intermediate image, but an embedded flash-application showing it.
A click on it, and you're in flash's fullscreen-mode viewing the photo on black.

click here to visit my gallery and see the plugin in action (http://galerie.makrograf.com/displayimage.php?album=16&pos=6)

The swf shows the actual image. It will be resized to the screen size, in case it's too large, a click shows a 100%-view. Otherwise the image is centered.
If you move the mouse to the top, a bar will appear offering some (self-explanatory) buttons to navigate, background-colors, thumbnails of the current album and a slideshow. Uh, and you are allowed to close it, of course :D
If the visitor does not use a flash-enabled browser he will see the normal intermediate picture.

The plugin uses swfobject to embed the swf-file. It's included in the zip.

Warning!!!

To-Do (my wish list ;))
Anyway, using flash (you can completely disable the normal intermediate image btw), 90% of those "right-click-save-as"-thief's are stopped, i think :D

So, I hope you like it, and that it works...

attached the zip to this post.

Andreas,

Do you have a direct Link to your slideshow ?
Because without any German language in my head, it's difficult to find and see your work in action  ;)

Thanx for all of us who do'nt speak Göthe.

Well,
no one interested, eh?  ;D

Anyway, as programming is relaxing for me, you can think of what i did in the last nights... yes, i relaxed and a new version is coming... not today, but:
it speaks english than, and nearly any other language, as it is using an xml-config file... (and you provide a translation :D)

a screenshot is all i can provide right now :)

still hoping anyone is interested  ;)

Uh,
thank you Vincs :)

Here is a sneak preview to the version coming... it's not running inside coppermine gallery, but it will be, when i release it.

- It uses now "true" smooth resizing in fullscreen-mode. This works quite good, and you don't have to care of image sizes anymore... well, they still look best in there original size, but there are a lot of different Screen-resolutions out there ;)
- new Thumbnail-View
- new Nav-Box on the right side (Thumbs, Next, Back for now)
- the intermediate image will have arrows to navigate inside coppermine, too. (as you see in the preview)

NOTE: this version can be buggy, I wanted to show you the upcoming version.

I hope someone is interested in this, will be happy to here from you guys

This plugin looks very promising.  I use my site for business, so I will be monitoring your progress for a while before I install it (still setting up my coppermine gallery as well).  Thanks for working on this for all of us.

Well,
it's good to hear, you like what you see there :)

But I was very busy (sister's marriage) and sick the last two weeks, that you'll have to wait... :(

I still have some ideas that I want to implement (integrated flv-player for example), but i will update this thread with news and previews. So stay tuned  ;)

Hi,
a new demo can be tested here:

http://makrograf.com/dev/beta/bin/index.php?id=1

The nav-buttons in the preview are working now, the slideshow feature works, and there are no more visible URLs to the images in the html-source. The coppermine plugin will later generate the xml with the image-information for the app at runtime...

Morgen andreas,

Can we see your /plugins/fsslides/bin/index.php file to understand how to start your SlideShow ?
I try it without success inside my own Gallery (http://www.pays-dignois.com/galerie/dia-flash.php?id=1) ???

Is there a way to remove the ? (question mark) inside the slideshow? I don't want guests on my site to see this. Also, is there a way to make a link let's say next to an album in an album view and have a direct link to full screen slideshow of that album?

Seems great to me. Will it be possible to change backgroundcolour in full screen flash modus in another colour than black? I'd prefer grey for exampel.

Hello,

The last link does not work for me either.  One suggestion when it works fully.  There must be an easy way to go back to the "original page" -- for example, when the viewer clicks on the screen the previous site shows up,  just like what happens with CPG now when you click on the largest "pop up" image.

Here are some other suggestions, apart from a full screen, a more important application would be the ability to embed this plugin to a text site, such as a file in Joomla, for example.  The "full screen" functionality would be applied more by  the ability of the image to occupy the full width of any "module" e.g.,  that of a column.

Uhhh,
sorry guys, forgot to answer and did not see the new posts..

There are two versions of this programm... the old one i offered as a plugin (should work, for me it does) and a new one, called maxiMEE from now on ;)

I showed you a demo of it.

maxiMEE will be running stand alone AND as a coppermine plugin. The plugin makes use of CPMfetch, as i changed the whole structure of the program. It uses XML generated at runtime (this will be the part you need CPMfetch).

Sadly, i don't have much time atm, so the Plugin is still not finished.
But the development of the program itself is on a good way to be "releaseable".

maxiMEE Preview (http://maximee.com)

Ok, here are the features

ok, thats all for now...

any suggestions?

Nice one, found a bug though:
when in fullscreen and you click on the menu (to show the thumbnails), you can go back to the regular fulscreen by clicking the big image.
If you keep clicking that image, you only return halfly to the previous menu. (Picture only move down half the screen)

Also, you might implemet some preloading?

Hi SaWey...

this was the tip i needed... i knew this happens from time to time, but your hint: "keep clicking that image" was the main problem... thank you, next version will come without this bug (well, I hope so  ;D)

By preloading you mean preloading the large photos? Because this will take some time in bigger galleries...

Anyway, good to hear, that you like it!

When i want install it I cant upload it through puginmenager.

Do you mean the first version called "fsslides"?

There was an error copying the package to the plugins folder.

By preloading I mean just the next image when using the automatic slideshow, or maybe next and previous images?

Hello,

1. Preloading is a good idea, but right now I would have to rewrite a lot of code... Anyway, preloading is something i want to have in there, but still have to think about the realization...

2. The plugin will be released, when I'm happy with the result...  you can use the old version for now.

The new version is (well, at least for me) a new dimension, because I have much more code in there... you remember?

- theme engine
- new bitmap-resizing in the background
- Eye-candy
an more...

Andreas :)

Just a maybe-hint for the preloading:
You might use a placeholder that is offscreen to load the image in?
Title: Re: Fullscreen-Viewer/Slideshow Plugin w/flash - viewing photos without distract
Post by: baerlichkeit on February 05, 2008, 08:33:23 pm
Hi,
right now I use one Image-Object and I'm overwriting it for every new Image... I know, that this is not the best way, but it worked "ok" for me. (remember, this is my first Flex-Experience ;))

The preloading will be using some sort of "image-array", as I already do it in the thumbs-view.

There is a very nice "bulk-loader" for as3. It does a very good job, and as far as I can say, the first release will preloade ;)

Thanks, Andreas

Hi Vincs,
well, I'm afraid you have to wait some more days :-[ I'm very busy atm (final written examinations) and don't find enough time to complete it and sort out all bugs (at least the bugs I'm aware of)...

Nonetheless did I change some parts of the program... you can see the actual version here:

KLICK me (http://makrograf.com/maximee/10022008/index.php)

The thumbnails-view is now on the bottom of the fullscreen-view and i added a option to show/disable the nav-buttons at the intermediate view. Try it and you'll see what I mean.  ;) SWF-files are now supported, too. (the mouse-click image is an animated swf)

Am I stupid? :-)

You provide us some links every time new version appears, but for me, there's no link for preview! And when nobody points that, it probably means I am an idiot and need a link straight to preview or what, please. I am very interested in this function and I also want to see the development, but always only the page with huge PREVIEW appears but no action :-)

Thx for all!

Ok,
news :)

I made an basic plugin, working "ok" so far... it uses CpmFetch 2 to fetch the image data. (sorting the images wasn't that easy for a php-newbie like me :D)

Anyway, the program itself is not that stable atm. I'm still very busy here, so it takes some more time to release a version, not crashing time by time. (you will see what i mean, perhaps ;))

I created a demo-gallery for this (basic 1.4.16, only maxiMEE+CpmFetch added). As always, you'll need the newest flash-player.

Klick here for the demo-gallery (http://maximee.com/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=1)

There is also a new config-page, running in the background of course. So I attached a screenshot.

So have fun and stay tuned

Ok,
would be great to here, if it runs or crashes, or whatever ;)

Here is a new version (still not precaching large images, well, actually I don't know if i want the program to do that  ???)

A CPG with maxiMEE and

Updates:

I would be very happy to hear something. :)

p.s.: What do you think about preloading the large images? Think of a large album with tons of huge images, i really don't know if that's a good idea.
btw: The Loader status on top of the screen will be fixed for images already loaded.

Post by: Vincs on March 07, 2008, 03:54:56 pm
It looks very nice!
But I think that if you have lots of picture in an album it will take a bit too long for loading every thumbnail...
It would be nice if you can see a full screen page of thumbnails and loading it when it's needed...
But it's already very good like this I think...

So release it :)

WOW!!! Its impresive what you have achieved with this plugin. Although I think that this final version takes longer to load the images than the others, but all the graphics and visual effects are excellent. The preloading Idea will be the best thing for albums with a lot of images.

I installed the first plugin that you release, and I realize that it cause some problems when you have videos in the gallery, it blocks the videos and dont let them to play, even appear. I wonder if this problem is already fixed, or it will always happen?
Title: Re: Fullscreen-Viewer/Slideshow Plugin w/flash - viewing photos without distract
Post by: baerlichkeit on March 14, 2008, 08:03:59 pm
Thank you,
I will have my first exam next week, perhaps I will find some time after that to finish a first version.

Loading times: normally, they should depend on the images file size, only. But I will have a look at it.

Videos: yeah, videos. What I already did is including a SWF-loader (beside images). If maxiMEE finds an swf it loads it in another way, because it's not a bitmap. There is no playback control at the moment. But as I personally use no videos, that's not the issue/feature with the highest priority  :-\
For future version a fully working video/flv playback engine is planned, but I did not start working on that.

To fix the problem maxiMEE loads nothing and blocks a video: this should be possible with the plugin's php-code. If anyone has an idea how to implement a
"If the actual file is a video don't use maximee (in codebase.php) "-switch I will include it.

There is also a webpage coming, with an issue/bug tracker and all this modern stuff :D So stay tuned.

Hey !
A thing that could be greate to include in your project is another way to access to the "Fullscreen-Viewer/Slideshow Plugin w/flash" by the way of a link that enables you to browse the all album. And not to select a picture then put on full screen etc etc...

See you :)
Give us news of your release when you have.

I have no idea whats going on here but some of my pics when in the intermediate stage just don't show up. In chrome it leaves an empty box that I can click on and get the fullscreen image in flash but in internet explorer I don't even have a box there. I can see this being a potential problem for end users.
Here's and example of one not working: http://images.pretomeuploads.net/displayimage-2-10.html (http://images.pretomeuploads.net/displayimage-2-10.html)
And an example of one not working: http://images.pretomeuploads.net/displayimage-81.html (http://images.pretomeuploads.net/displayimage-81.html)

I fail to see why some work and others don't...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
