Hi,
I have been using coppermine for years and never experienced that kind of problem.
When I go to the « admin tools » then select « update thumbs and/or resized photos », « only thumbnails » then I pick an album to update.
Coppermine deletes all thumbnails in that specific album ?? I have done this feature many times in the past, when I modified albums and it always worked fine.
I have looked at the permission and there is nothing different than my other coppermine photoalbums.
I daily backup my coppermine (sql & data) BUT not thumbnails as I can usually recreate them easily. Now I am stuck with a collection of default image as thumbnails but the original images are still there.
Any clue ?

I suppected something about the resize method.
I went to the config panel in the « Method for resizing images » and replaced the ImageMagick by GD version 2.x.
The system was able to rebuild the thumbnails succesfully.
So everything is fine now, but do not know why ImageMagick stopped working ?

That's probably something you need to ask your hosting provider.
