I'm using the SiteGround GreenLayer theme (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,47293.0.html) with the modification described here: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,52591.msg255295.html#msg255295 (i.e. resizing full size images used on the intermediary page to make them look like intermediary images while still being full size).

Since updating to cpg 1.5.20, the image view counter no longer works for the SiteGround theme, but does work for other themes, leading me to think that there is a major issue with the theme.php file that makes the view counter not work with the new update. I'd like to continue using the modified theme because I've finally got the gallery working the way I like it. Any advice?

I hadn't, thanks for linking it.

However, I still can't figure out which part of the theme.php file is messing up the view count. I've looked in the sample file and the only sections that seemed pertinent (template_display_media/theme_display_image) had no information about view counts as far as I could tell.

Any help would be appreciated.

After you upgrade the theme, check if it works.

What view count are you talking about exactly?
Album viewed x times (catagory pages)
x views (thumbnail pages)
Displayed:   x times (intermediate pages)

This would be for the thumbnail page. {CAPTION} includes the view count.

The album view count works, but since that wasn't a feature in cpg 1x4.xx, I assume it can't be affected by the theme.php file because it contains no code for it.

I don't display view count on the thumbnail page.

The problem is that the view count on intermediary pages never increases and the Most Viewed page of an album stays empty if it was uploaded after the upgrade. The total tally on the main page has been stuck at 6,866,866 since I upgraded. The gallery is not counting image views. Period.

Okay, I probably should have qualified my line of "the gallery isn't counting image views. Period." with "when using my default theme".

But like I said in my original post, if you switch to a different theme, image views are counted.

That's why I'm almost positive it has to be the theme.php code that's messed up somewhere.

(And yes, I ran the update.php. It was after that that the view count stopped increasing.)

I'm not sure why that section is in your theme.php to begin with, doesn't seem to change anything but I only scanned it. You can probably just remove it.

You should make these changes for all the functions in your theme.php to be confident it is 1.5.x compatible.

Sorry for the late response, life suddenly got very busy...

Okay, so that took care of the view count problem, but it broke the thing I really wanted to keep - resizing of the images to just 680 px so that that you can see the entire picture easily and not be stuck with both horizontal and vertical scroll bars, like this: http://www.leavemethewhite.com/caps/displayimage.php?album=253&pid=133415#top_display_media.

You'd think it would be possible to have one without sacrificing the other, but if you can't I'd rather have the picture be resized and not have views count than vice versa.

Sorry, no, that didn't help.

I'm not sure what it is you expect me to do about the theme.php file. The page you link to basically only says this about that particular file:

If you can, empty your copy of theme.php (of course you should keep a backup somewhere safe as a precaution) and then re-add the changes you need as if you were creating your custom theme from scratch, copying the relevant bits you want to see changed from the sample theme (as suggested in "The sample theme - a template to copy from") and then modifying your edits as you see fit.

Since I only know enough about this stuff to get me into trouble (i.e. I can read, but I don't really understand what I'm reading), I highly doubted my ability to rebuild the theme.php from scratch - like it tells me to - the first time you linked it. And the page doesn't offer an alternative to those who are unwilling to empty out the theme.php file.

If at all possible, I'd rather just not muck about with things I don't understand.

I don't have the time to go through your whole theme.php but its just looking up the functions that are in it, copying the new functions from the sample theme, then modifying the new functions to perform the same actions as the old ones.

I copied the theme_display_image() function and modified the line with $width to match the old one.
If you read through it you should be able to find the differences and if you have trouble implementing one you can always post here again.

If you can't upgrade the theme for 1.5.x you can resize the intermediate images to 680px:
