can upload large gifs but not smaller jpg's

Hi .

I have read and tried all of the suggestions in the upload trouble shooter but without success.

My problem is this.
I can upload large gifs of 2MB 1500px X 1500px but, I cannot upload smaller jpg's of 500KB 1000px X 1000px. I get a blank page or Internal server error 500 if I try to upload the jpg's.

I have set the file size to 2048KB, enabled the following file types. jpg/gif/png/bmp/JPG/GIF/PNG/BMP and have the file width/height set to 2048px

Lowering the size of the jpg's to around 350KB will allow the upload.

My server host allows .htaccess files and also allows changing the allowed memory size using the .htaccess file, I have that set at 30MB.

I would really appreciate any help.
